Counterbalance Forklift Training
Based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, anyone who utilizes a counterbalanced lift truck is required to receive training. Training for these types of industrial vehicles includes both hands-on driver training and classroom training. Refresher training is required occasionally so as to keep operator skills up to date. OSHA does not specify a minimum time requirement for either the hands-on or classroom training.

Counterbalanced Forklifts
The counterbalance forklift could balance its cargo thanks to a counterbalance built into the truck. Tines can move down and up parallel to the truck's body. The tines do not pivot. Operators who drive counterbalanced lift trucks must have training about the specific forklifts they would be driving and in a similar workplace surroundings.

Classroom Training Programs
In classroom training, the forklift operator will be taught about the model he or she would be driving. Information includes specifications such as height, weight and load capacity. The operator will learn the basics of charging or fueling the forklift, which depends on whether it is a battery-powered or gas-powered engine. Safety procedures pertaining to the particular forklift, like for example how to safely walk around the lift truck, will be covered.

Supervised Driving
Supervised driver training would ensure the forklift operator knows how to utilize the counterbalanced forklift. This practical training would occur in the same kind of environment in which the operator would be working. The driver will train with the same kinds of surrounding buildings and other structures on the same type of terrain, as well as similar vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Refresher Training
Counterbalance lift truck drivers are required by OSHA to take a regular refresher training program. However, there are no specifications as to the frequency at which a driver needs this training. However, for regular drivers, refresher training programs needs to consist of classroom-style training.
